Prenups and Financial Planning
Prenups and Financial Planning
Our solicitors can assist in preparing pre or post nuptial agreements and advise upon arrangements for separation of a cohabiting couple. Call GoodLaw Solicitors LLP in Hove, Brighton or Farnham. We serve clients across Sussex and Surrey and the South East.
Many couples now choose not to marry, but instead live as cohabitees for many years. Regardless of the length of the relationship or whether you have children, your rights over property and assets can be limited outside of a marriage or civil partnership. At GoodLaw Solicitors LLP, we believe in taking a proactive approach to protect your interests and often advise at the outset of a relationship or on the purchase of a joint property. However, we can also assist upon the breakdown of a relationship to ensure that you receive clear advice about your entitlement to property or financial support, either for yourself or for your children.
Cohabitation agreements are now a popular option for unmarried couples who want to plan ahead and this is something we can advise on and also assist with drafting where appropriate.
Prenuptial and Postnuptial Agreements
Nuptial agreements are becoming increasingly common and are now accepted by many EU countries. Although case law in England and Wales has developed significantly in recent years, such agreements are not always upheld by the court and so, for those planning their nuptials, it can be just as important to seek advice on their financial security as it is to order the wedding cake! That said, prenuptial agreements and postnuptial agreements are not suitable in all cases and advice should be sought at the earliest opportunity to ensure that arrangements can be put in place where appropriate. We can help to plan, negotiate and draft an agreement on your behalf or respond to an agreement received from your partner’s solicitor.
